At Castine Maine

Tuesday, 15 May     Day 12   Daily Log   Voyage #  0107

CAPTAIN'S LOG

Our Paper Chart just before picnic time yesterday evening

The holiday has been deemed a success.  The weather cooperated, the food was terrific, and the music was everywhere.  We have some very talented musicians aboard!  Games were fun, movies were continuous and bridge visitors abounded.   A truly great relaxing day.....and the watchstanding company made it so for everyone by keeping us on track and everything running smoothly.

Every year at every Holiday we always have those special few folks who along with the ship's crew still manage to put in the better part of a working day.  These people deserve a special thanks....and lest we not forget, all the extra work by the dining service staff and the volunteer cooks, who despite watery eyes from the smoke, stand tall and cook the ribs and burgers for all to enjoy.

We passed the East most Azores island this morning with a total transit time of about 24 hours.  It is certainly a nice way to break up the ocean passage.  Right now is the start of the Europe / U.S. Yacht delivery season and most folks making the passage stop in the Azores for a day or so.

We are back on our routine daily schedule and will again move our clocks ahead tonight.  Our Bunker (bunkers are fuel) Broker is talking with the suppliers in the Gibraltar area and with our agent to facilitate our loading.  Right now we are not sure whether we will get the bunkers at anchor or alongside.

Check out our Question and Answer page.

Rockland/Castine  Excursion:

Rockland to Castine the day we arrive back at our home berth (30 June) has been designated as a possible "excursion day".  The U.S. Coast Guard has granted us a permit to take extra persons on board above our vessels certification.  To do this we have to have certain lifesaving procedures and equipment on board.  Accordingly the numbers we can take are strictly limited.  We, of necessity,  have limited our guests to 2 persons per upper class student on cruise (immediate family members only) plus official MMA invitees and crew member guests.  We can not offer more because we do not have the lifesaving capability.  Also this is always a tentative adventure which, because of weather, security, operational difficulties etc. may be cancelled up to the last moment.  The security issue is becoming a big item in how we offer and execute these excursions, so for those who are planning to attend please be patient with the necessary safety and security procedures.
