| SHIP'S LOG
We were blessed with another beautiful day
for touring Halifax yesterday. The locals told us that they just
finished a 30 day stretch of nothing but rain. Perhaps we will bring
and keep the good weather streak going as we arrive in Castine.
Unfortunately, it looks a little dreary outside, and the weather prediction is calling for some rain today. Many
of our students took advantage of a cut rate at the maritime museum,
which has a fantastic collection of ship models and historic
nautical equipment. The curators of the museum have also done a
great job recreating some of the tragic maritime relate events which
have plagued Halifax. These include the 1917 ammunition ship
explosion which devastated the city, and Halifax is where the
casualties of the Titanic were landed and processed. There is a rich
maritime tradition in Halifax, and the city takes great pride in it.
Last night the local high school celebrated
their prom in a hall adjacent to the ship. Everyone was dressed to
"kill." I have witness this event twice in Canada, and marvel at how
serious and how much money is spent on this event. Everyone looked
great.
